The Odyssey six-color, four-station manual press, manufactured in the United States by Workhorse Products, has recently been improved with some of the same quality features as the company’s automatic line.

This press is more durable and lightweight while being kept at the same affordable price making it ideal for any startup operation on a budget.

One of the most significant improvements is the construction of the machine’s carousel. Formerly made of steel, it has been replaced with honeycomb metal, which is lighter, therefore making it easier to spin the platens. It has also made the platen arms stronger with minimal deflection.

Registration was formerly achieved with a gate and nylon bolts. This has been replaced by a capture fork and bearings, the same system used on the company’s automatic presses. This new improvement is not only more dependable, but has been known to last the lifetime of the press when used on automatics.

As part of the improved microregistration, heavy-duty springs were added and are now located underneath the print head. Depending on if the press is going to be used for larger, oversized platens or smaller-than-standard platens, the springs can be customized to the workload required.

Finally, the platens have been upgraded from standard wood to rubber-coated aluminum with a quick-release system for faster set-up times.

The maximum screen width is 23 inches and other features include adjustable off-contact, adjustable screen angle, large diameter registration points, and easy-load, quick-change pallets.

The Brother DTG Synergy + Firefly All-In-One Production System, a start-to-finish modular unit for volume DTG digital decorating, made its debut at the October 2017 SGIA Expo. Combining an automatic pretreater (Synergy) and conveyor dryer (Firefly), it simplifies and streamlines digital garment printing.

An easy-to-operate software program using bar code technology links all equipment components to automate the process and provide complete control from a single panel. The connection to the Firefly allows for rapid pretreat evaporation.

A transport belt from the Synergy system into the Firefly supports continuous operational flow. There also are two sets of independently functioning spray nozzles and an integrated mixing system for the concentrated pretreatment solution. These minimize production and maintenance downtime.

After the user provides the artwork, a bar code is generated and applied to the garment, which is scanned in at the Synergy and loaded on the belt using the projection system and pretreated. The print-ready garment is automatically transferred to Firefly, where the pretreat fluid is dried. It is then scanned at the GTX printer, and the artwork file is loaded.

The operator loads the garment on the printer and presses the print button. The printed garment is loaded on the Firefly belt for curing, and the bar code is scanned to produce the shipping label (API connections are available).

Lending to quality and efficiency, Synergy adjusts the amount and spray size of the pretreatment area based on profiled garment specifications and artwork size. The software takes a PNG and creates an ARX4 file that the GTX printer can read to size and place the artwork for the job.

The projection system provides the operator with a visual alignment tool for loading garments. The system is scalable according to production requirements, with rates of up to 140 units per hour achievable with four GTX printers.

A new video from Stahls’ TV shows how easy it is to cash in on the rhinestone craze at a fraction of the cost. You’ll see how the Universal Laser Cutter and Stahls’ CAD-CUT® Hologram heat transfer vinyl can be paired to create faux rhinestone designs that offer the “bling” of traditional rhinestones, with greater durability.

Side-by-side demonstrations show how the laser technique achieves a comparable look with fewer steps than traditional rhinestone application. You’ll discover how the ULS software vector engraves a faux rhinestone effect using the imported design and then eliminates the need for trimming by vector cutting.
